Next Door Pizza

I made a mistake on Sunday. I got pizza from an unnamed chain pizza place. I hadn't done that in nearly four years before my relapse this weekend. Bad pizza is an addiction in America. It infects our children by showing up where kids hang out. Swimming pools. Roller Rinks. Schools! We grow up thinking pizza is a floppy, greasy, gummy mess covered in paper-thin slices of pepperoni. We order pizza delivered to our front door with foundations of lackluster crusts covered by the same mediocre toppings. Lucky for us in Lee's Summit, there is a renowned rehabilitation facility known as Next Door Pizza. With several treatment options, Next Door Pizza will get you on the good pizza wagon and get the bad pizza monkey off your back.

First Ever Lee's Summit Tweet-Up in the works.

UPDATE: Plans are Finalized. #LStwup will happen on 6/25 at Howard Station Park for "Music in the Park"

If you've been by the blog recently, you may have noticed a couple of things. For one, I've not been writing much. I'm gonna blame that on writers block. Hopefully, this short entry helps me get over that. Secondly, a new twitter stream has been added to the left hand side of the blog. This stream is following updates concerning the first ever Lee's Summit Tweet-Up (#LStwup)!

As a group, a few of us Social Media people in Lee's Summit have decided to get a little more social. The plan is to pick an event happening in Lee's Summit that will give us an opportunity to support the community while at the same time putting a face to a (twitter) name. I'm sure many of you follow the same people I do (@downtownls, @lsummitchamber, @mcclongview, @LeesSummitScoop) to find out the goings on in Lee's Summit. I bet you've even interacted with them on Twitter or Facebook at some point. The Lee's Summit Tweet-Up is a great opportunity to meet some of your favorite "Tweeps" and get in on the Social part of Social Media. I encourage anyone that's on twitter in LS to get involved in the Tweet-Up. Got an Idea? Let everyone know by using the #LStwup Hash-tag and definitely stay tuned so you can attend!

The consensus is to check out "Music in the Park", a free concert series held every Friday night held at Howard Station Park throughout the Summer. The Tweet-Up will be held on June 25th. We'll be able to enjoy live music, a wonderful Summer evening, and our beautiful Downtown all while meeting new friends. This is a great opportunity for the people in Lee's Summit's online community to get involved in real life; to become connected to our town and the people in it; to live locally! Make sure you spread the word! Tweet, Blog, and Facebook about this cool happening!

Lee's Summit Resource Recovery Park

I really wanted to get this post in on Earth Day but with two daughters with birthdays on April 22nd, I had more pressing things to do than blog about garbage. But now that I have a few minutes the day after, I'd like to take a few minutes to point out one of the City of Lee's Summit's great services, the Resource Recovery Park. Operated by the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department and located on Hamblen Road, the Resource Recovery Park is a one stop solution to being green and saving some green of your own.

SOS Update- B:2 is unB:lievable!

Just a quick note. Last night, I had an opportunity to try out Lee’s Summit’s newest spot, B:2 a Burger Boutique. My meal consisted of a Baby Arugula Salad, the b:mac burger, and truffle fries. From start to finish, I was impressed. The greens in the salad were fresh; lightly coated with great dressings. My wife subbed the blue cheese for a chipotle ranch that was out of this world. In fact, that’s how I will order my salad from now on! The b:mac is Chef Josh Eans take on the Big Mac

Yoga For Everyone- Enter to Win Free Yoga!

A  few weeks ago, I was invited to try a yoga class by Leah, one of the owners of The Zen Zone, a yoga Spot (413 Northwest Murray Road) located in Lee’s Summit. Right off the bat, Leah wouldn’t allow me to think of yoga as some girly, new-age exercise cult. Along with her invite, she included a link about the Zen Zone hosting the manly Missouri Mavericks Hockey Club as their official yoga studio. I had no excuses not to try yoga for the first time. If hockey players do yoga, everyone does yoga. I was amazed to learn just how correct that statement would turn out to be.

Neighbor's Cafe

My dad came to visit my family in Lee’s Summit from Pennsylvania last year when my youngest daughter was born. While we enjoyed his company and the help with the new baby, the one thing that pops out about his stay is Neighbor’s Cafe. My dad is the kind of guy who likes to drink some coffee, read the paper and chat with all who will listen. During his stay, he found the perfect Spot in Lee’s Summit for that. Located downtown on 3rd Street, Neighbor’s is the quintessential small town diner. The perfect place for a good, hearty breakfast, a cup of coffee and some great conversation. Oh, and FREE CINNAMON ROLLS!

Win Free Food from Maggie's Authentic Mexican!

When I started writing about our community a few weeks ago, I had a few Lee’s Summit Spots in mind that I wanted to write about. As I began to interact with other Lee’s Summit residents through Twitter (@lsspots), I noticed the buzz about places I’d not been to. Some of the loudest noise about a local spot was about Maggie’s Authentic Mexican Foods, located on 3rd Street, right across from the Kids at Heart Fountain. So while I was downtown for the Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Day Parade, I stopped in to scope the place out. As soon as I walked in and glanced at the menu, I knew I’d be coming back.
